Benthic Invertebrates Abundance and Trophic Links in the Coastal Zone during Cladophora Blooms

چکیده

The green macroalga Cladophora glomerata, a species typical of brackish water, predominates in most coastal areas estuarine ecosystems. present study aimed to determine the current ecological conditions Neva estuary (Baltic Sea) when subjected eutrophication and summer bloom. Macroalgae bloom can result temporary unfavorable (oxygen depletion pollution) for invertebrates during macroalgae decomposition, its contribution autochthonous benthic food web remains unclear. We evaluated biomass abundance composition macro- meiobenthic traced trophic links area Some grazing or omnivorous consumers (nematodes, gastropods, amphipods, insect larvae) reached high Cladophora-dominated community. tracing sources chain community (macrophytes-grazers-omnivores) were elucidated using dual δ13C δ15N stable isotope analysis. results showed that organic derived from at various stages might contribute notably (up 89%) web, supporting production consumers.

The Distribution and Abundance of Macrobenthic Invertebrates in the Hormozgan Province, the Persian Gulf

During the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Oceanographic study (PG-GOOS) in autumn 2012, sampling of macrobenthos was undertaken in 31 stations in Hormozgan Province waters. Three samples were taken from each site using Van Veen grab. Effects of environmental variables on assemblages and distributions of macrobenthos were analyzed. A total of 5677 individuals of macrobenthos were counted being repres...

Recurring patterns in bacterioplankton dynamics during coastal spring algae blooms

A process of global importance in carbon cycling is the remineralization of algae biomass by heterotrophic bacteria, most notably during massive marine algae blooms. Such blooms can trigger secondary blooms of planktonic bacteria that consist of swift successions of distinct bacterial clades, most prominently members of the Flavobacteriia, Gammaproteobacteria and the alphaproteobacterial Roseob...

Functional roles of an engineer species for coastal benthic invertebrates and demersal fish

Through their tissues or activities, engineer species create, modify, or maintain habitats and alter the distribution and abundance of many plants and animals. This study investigates key ecological functions performed by an engineer species that colonizes coastal ecosystems. The gregarious tubiculous amphipod Haploops nirae is used as a biological model. According to previous studies, the habi...

The effect of Rainbow trout farms effluents on benthic macro-invertebrates of Marber River in Semirom

The effect of Rainbow trout farms effluents on benthic macro-invertebrates of Marber River in Semirom city was investigated in spring and summer of 2013. Sampling from benthic macro-invertebrates was done monthly using Surber sampler (mouth area of 30.5 * 30.5 cm with a 500 mesh net) at entrance, discharge and far from three fish farms. In addition to measuring physical and chemical parameters ...

Benthic Invertebrates of the Lower West River

The purpose of this study was to document existing benthic organisms of the lower West River in New Haven and West Haven, Connecticut, in order to enable monitoring of salt marsh restoration. Seventeen sites were sampled between the Chapel Street Bridge and the mouth of the West River during the month of July 1995. All sites contained polychaete worms and other organisms typical of estuarine sy...
